Basics New pilot

Daily and weekly tasks

Three small tasks a day and one bigger one a week from the Charter Office, picked for what you can do, paying LUM and materials, with one free swap a day.

The Charter Office posts three daily tasks and one weekly task for every pilot: mine some ore, sell a hold of goods, clear a combat site, visit new systems, refine, fly with a fleet, be there when a derelict drifts in. They count what you do anyway, wherever you do it, and pay a little extra when you're done.

Steps

  1. Open What's next from the Commbar. Your tasks are at the bottom. Open What's nextPlay to try this
  2. Read the three daily tasks and the weekly task: what to do, how far along you are, and what each pays.
  3. Play as you like. Each task's bar fills as you go, and a quiet note tells you when one is done.
  4. Press Collect on a done task to take its reward.

How tasks are picked

  • The three daily tasks come from different kinds of play: mining, trade and hauling, combat, exploration, industry, fleets and company, and happenings. You never get the same task twice in one day.
  • You're only offered what you can do now. No scanning task until you own a probe launcher, no hacking task without an analyzer, no mining task without a mining laser or a mining hull, and no Frontier task unless Frontier space is a few jumps away.
  • The weekly task is bigger and pays more.

Resets

  • New daily tasks arrive at 11:00 UTC every day. The weekly task changes every Monday at 11:00 UTC. The clocks next to each heading count down to the next one.
  • A task you didn't finish lapses at the reset. A task you finished but didn't collect stays under Waiting to be collected for about a week.

Rewards

  • Every task pays LUM, and many add a few materials: minerals or salvage.
  • LUM goes straight to your wallet. Materials go to your hangar at the station you're docked at, or at your home station when you're in space. The reward's tooltip says where.
  • Rewards grow a little as you train more skills, so a seasoned pilot's tasks are worth about as much of their time as a new pilot's. They're a bonus on top of normal play, never a replacement for it.

Swapping a task

Don't like one? Press its swap button for a different task of the same period. You get one free swap a day, shared by the daily and the weekly tasks, and it comes back at the daily reset. A task you've finished can't be swapped.

Tip
Happenings tasks count any derelict, hauler ambush, comet pass or distress call you're at while it's on. What's next lists the ones near you.
