Basics New pilot

The Scope and brackets

Read the Scope, switch its tabs, act on any row, and tell pilots apart by the brackets and law tags they carry in space.

The Scope is the list of what's around you: gates, stations, ships, belts, wrecks and sites, with their distance. Brackets are the small markers drawn on those same things in space. Most of the time you'll fly from the Scope: select a row, then act on it with a key.

Steps

  1. Find the Scope on your HUD. Show mePlay to try this
  2. Click a row to select it. The same object is selected in space.
  3. Press S to slip to it, or D to use it (dock, jump, open).
  4. Hold Ctrl and click a ship or asteroid to lock it.

Tabs

Each tab is a filter over the same system.

TabShows
GeneralEverything except rocks and celestials. Span gates are pinned to the top.
CombatShips that aren't in your fleet.
MiningAsteroids, belts, wrecks and non-hostile ships.
SlipPlaces you can slip to: stations, gates, planets, belts, sites and structures.
CelestialsThe sun, planets, belts, gates and stations.

Click a column header (distance, name, type) to sort by it. On the Mining tab the columns become Ore and how much is Left in each rock.

Acting on a row

  • Double-click a row (or press ↵) for the object's main action.
  • Right-click a row for its full menu: Dock or Jump, Slip to, Align to, Approach, Orbit, Keep at Range, Lock Target, Show Info. Each line shows its key.
  • With a route set, the next gate on it is highlighted, so you can follow the route by hand.

Slip to needs the object to be at least 150 km away. Closer than that, approach it.

Brackets in space

A bracket's shape tells you what the object is: ship, station, gate, wreck, asteroid or site. Its colour tells you how it relates to you, and hostiles such as Cartel and Choir ships stand out in red, in space and in the Scope.

Empty wrecks are drawn hollow, so you can skip the ones already looted.

Law tags

Pilots who have broken the law carry a tag in the Scope and on their bracket. These tell you who you may fight without becoming a criminal yourself.

TagMeans
CriminalAnyone may attack them. In Core space, the Wardens are coming.
OutlawConduct of −5.0 or lower. Anyone may attack them anywhere.
SuspectAnyone may attack them without penalty.
DuelIn a duel with you: fight freely.
SyndicateA member of your syndicate.

A pilot with no tag is innocent. Attacking one in Core or Frontier space costs you conduct and sets a flag. See Conduct and flags.

Tip
On a phone, the Scope is a bottom sheet you pull up to peek, half or full height. Tap a row to select, double-tap for its main action, long-press for the radial menu.
