Core space and the Cinder warzone

The Wardens

The Wardens are the Charter’s armed service. They guard the gates so everyone else can trade.

Doctrinewhat the Charter knows

When the colonies of the Aurelian Reach signed the Charter, they agreed to share the Span gates and to pay for someone to guard them. The Wardens are that someone.

They patrol the gates and stations of Core space and issue every new pilot a charter hull. Out in Cinder they fight the Choir around the clock, with coil guns and seeker boats, front by front.

“Commander Ilse Varga, Warden Charter Office. Every pilot in the Reach starts with me, so let's make you one worth the hull.”

  • Orientation 2 · completeSlipstream's behind you. Feels like cheating the first time, doesn't it?
  • Orientation 3 · introLock a Ferrox asteroid and fire up your mining laser. Three hundred units, and the Charter pays you to learn.

  • Orientation 6 · introTime to make that ship your own. Open Fitting and bolt something on. A second mining laser doubles your take.
  • Orientation 6 · completeFitted and ready. A ship is only as good as what you bolt to it, and yours just got better.
  • Orientation 7 · introA Cartel Cutter is squatting in a training hideout in this system. Slip there and remind it whose space this is.

Quartermaster Rhea Tal

Warden Logistics · Veyra II Station · Level 1

courier
  • GreetingQuartermaster Tal, Warden Logistics. If it's sealed, manifested and late, it's my problem. Let's make it not late.
  • OfferSealed package, one jump, no detours. Your collateral is held until it's signed for at the other end.
  • Offer 2Big crate, tight window. You'll want a Dray for this one, not your shiny little Wren.
  • AcceptPackage is in your hangar. Don't open it, don't sell it, and don't slip it past a Cartel hideout.

  • CompleteSigned, sealed, delivered. Collateral released. Good work, pilot.
  • Complete 2Ahead of schedule. I'm putting a gold star on your manifest. Metaphorically.

Sergeant Bram Holloway

Warden Patrol Sergeant · Solenne III Station · Level 1

bounty
  • GreetingSergeant Holloway, Warden Patrol! Pull up a crate. Core space stays quiet because people like us make it quiet.
  • OfferCouple of Cartel Cutters set up shop near the belt. Small fry, but they're spoiling the view. Go clear them out.
  • Offer 2Hideout's popped up on the patrol sweep. Three frigates, maybe. Nothing a sharp pilot can't handle.
  • AcceptThat's the spirit! Shields up, chin up, and aim for the shiny bits.
5 more lines
  • CompleteHa! Clean sweep. I'll buy the first round, you buy the next five.
  • Complete 2Site's clear and the traders are smiling again. Proper Warden work, that.
  • AbandonPulling out? No shame in it, lad or lass. Live to shoot another day.
  • FailToo slow, I'm afraid. The Cartel's packed up and moved on. We'll catch them next time.

Lieutenant Corin Aske

Warden Bounty Office · Kestrel III Station · Level 2

bounty
  • GreetingLieutenant Aske, bounty office. Coffee's cold, the Cartel's busy, and the Wardens are short of hands. Sit down.
  • OfferCartel hideout out past the belt. Cutters, and an Enforcer for company. Clear it and the bounty's yours, with a little extra.
  • Offer 2Another nest just lit up on the Scope. Same deal as always. They shoot, you shoot better.
  • AcceptLogged. Try to come back in one piece. The paperwork for the other kind of ending is murder.
5 more lines
  • CompleteSite's clean, bounty's paid. Look at that, I didn't even have to write to your next of kin.
  • Complete 2Nice shooting. One more hideout off the board, and the Cartel's a few hulls lighter.
  • AbandonPulling out? Can't say I blame you. I'll write it up as a tactical withdrawal.
  • FailContract's lapsed. The Cartel's still out there, laughing at both of us.
  • FarewellWatch your engagement timer, and your back. In that order.

bountycouriermining
  • GreetingCommodore Rusk, Frontier Picket. Past this station the Charter is a promise, not a fact. I hire pilots who keep it.
  • OfferA Cartel war-band has dug in past the Morrow Span. Cruisers, a battleship, the lot. Break them, and the Charter pays in full.
  • Offer 2The picket needs heavy freight on the Frontier line. Long jumps, hostile space, nobody coming to help. Lose it, and you answer to me.
  • AcceptThen it's done. Report when it's finished, not before.
8 more lines
  • CompleteClean work. The Frontier is a little quieter tonight. The Charter won't forget it, and neither will I.
  • Complete 2Delivered whole, through hostile space. That's what a Warden calls a good day.

  • FailThe window closed. Out here, late is the same as lost.
  • FarewellFly steady, pilot. Hold the line, and the line will hold you.

  • Writ · completeThe relic is home and the Writ is honoured. The Monarch Blueprint is yours. Build something worthy of the Reach.
