Everything NPC brokers sell, a pilot can fabricate for less, and rigs only pilots make. You need a pattern, the materials in your hangar, and a free job slot. Jobs run at the station in real time and finish whether you're docked, out in space or logged off. You get a notice when one is done, in the game and on your phone.
Steps
- Buy a sealed master pattern on the market (they're under Patterns) and take it to the station where you'll work.
- Open Industry, pick it under Sealed master patterns to register, then Register in vault. Open IndustryPlay to try this
- Pick the pattern, choose Fabricate, set the runs and check the inputs: anything short shows in red.
- Press Start. The materials and the job fee are taken now. Cancelling returns the materials, not the fee.
- When the job finishes, the goods are in your hangar at that station.
Master patterns and prints
A master pattern has unlimited runs. In your pattern vault it can run one job at a time and gets better with tuning:
- Yield tuning (yield grade, up to 10): each grade saves 1 % of materials.
- Speed tuning (speed grade, up to 10): each grade saves 2 % of fabrication time.
Each grade takes longer than the last: the first takes minutes, the tenth days. A tuned master stays in the vault at its station. An untuned one can be sealed again to sell or haul.
A print is one run. Printing from a master makes as many runs as you ask for (up to 10 for modules), and prints stack, travel and sell on the market like any item. Prints are always plain (grade 0).
Job slots and skills
You can run 3 fabrication jobs and 2 lab jobs (tuning or printing) at once, anywhere. Capital parts share the fabrication slots.
- Fabrication: 4 % faster fabrication per level.
- Parallel Fabrication: one more fabrication job per level.
- Pattern Research: 5 % faster tuning and printing per level.
- Lab Coordination: one more lab job per level.
Salvage
Every ship wreck can be salvaged once. Fit a Ostrava Gleaner-1 Salvager, lock the wreck and run it like a mining laser. Each cycle has a chance to strip the wreck: better for small wrecks, and with each level of Salvaging. What fits goes into your hold; the rest stays in the wreck.
Alloy Scrap and Burned Relays come from any wreck. Cruisers and bigger leave Scorched Hull Plating and Fused Circuitry. Choir wrecks in the Void also give Choir Lattice, which large rigs need.
Rigs
Rigs are permanent upgrades fabricated from salvage. Each has a bonus and a drawback, for example:
- Rigs go in rig slots: 2 on frigates, destroyers, industrials and barges, 3 on cruisers and battleships. A rig's size must match the hull's.
- Fitting one needs Rigging. Each level of Rigging makes the drawbacks 10 % smaller.
- Once fitted, a rig can't come out intact: removing it destroys it. It's lost with the ship and never drops as loot.
Planetary goods
Larger ships and large rigs also need Reactor Coolant, Construction Polymer or Nanite Paste. For now the brokers at trade hubs sell them.
