Contracts and agents

Take paid jobs from any station's Contracts board, find agents in the Charter Network, and build the standing that unlocks better work.

Every station has a Contracts board of paid jobs: deliver ore, carry a sealed package, clear a Cartel hideout, or bring in modules. The Charter Network is the directory of the agents who post that work across the Reach. Contracts are the plainest answer to "how do I make money?", and finishing them earns standing with the agent and their faction.

Steps

  1. Dock and open the Contracts board. Open ContractsPlay to try this
  2. Pick a job. Each row shows its kind, objective, reward, risk band, jumps and time limit.
  3. Accept it, then do the work. Your tracker shows the progress.
  4. Come back to the station and press Complete to collect.

The four kinds

KindYou doNotes
Mining quotaDeliver a quantity of one ore, or its minerals, to the station. The ore matches the band.
CourierCarry a sealed package to another station.A collateral is held from your wallet and refunded on delivery. Large packages need a Dray.
BountyClear a Cartel hideout in this system or next door.Difficulty follows the band.
ProcurementDeliver a number of a given module.Pays over the market price.

The rules

  • You can hold 3 contracts at once. Accepting is free.
  • Each contract has 24 hours. If it expires, it fails, and a courier's collateral is forfeited.
  • Abandoning is free for the first 5 minutes. After that it costs 10 % of the reward.
  • The board refreshes over time: one job is replaced every 10 minutes.
  • Rewards grow with danger: × 1.5 in the Frontier and × 2.5 in the Void, compared with Core space.
Tip
Aurelis IV Station always has an easy mining quota, a one-jump courier run and a training hideout bounty. Start there.

The Charter Orientation

Every new pilot gets the Charter Orientation from the Warden Charter Office at Aurelis IV Station: nine short steps that walk you through undocking, slipping, mining, refining, selling, fitting, a first fight, a first contract and a first Span jump. Each step pays LUM, a few give items, and finishing grants SP and a cosmetic paint. The tracker shows the current step and a Show me button. You can skip it from the tracker, but its rewards are lost.

The Charter Network

Open the Charter NetworkPlay to try this

The Network sorts agents into Security (bounties), Logistics (courier), Mining (quotas) and Procurement, plus the Charter Office while your Orientation runs. Filter by distance, band and faction. Select an agent to see their portrait, a greeting, their open contracts and a Set route button that plots the way to their station. You accept their contracts docked at their station.

Standings and loyalty points

Completing a contract raises your standing with the agent and their faction. Failing one lowers it. Factions include the Wardens, the Cartel, the Choir and the four manufacturers.

  • Agent levels 1 to 4. Higher levels pay more and ask more. They need standing with the agent or their faction: 0 for level 1, then 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0. Diplomacy counts toward that.
  • Loyalty points (LP) come with each contract. Spend them, with some LUM, at that faction's store.
  • Opposed factions: work for the Cartel or the Choir and your Warden standing drops.

The Standings tab in the Charter Network shows your factions and agents. Negotiation adds to contract rewards.
