You can start playing with nothing but a pilot name: no email, no password. That pilot is real and saved like anyone else's, with ships, LUM and skills. What it lacks is a way back in from anywhere else. Until you secure it, it lives in this browser only. Add a passkey and it's yours on any device, and nothing you've earned changes.
Steps
- Open the Account entry at the bottom of the Commbar. An unsecured pilot shows an amber Unsecured mark there.
- Choose Secure your account.
- Press Add a passkey and confirm with your device's own prompt. That's it.
Play now
On the login screen, Play now asks for one thing: a pilot name. It's prefilled with a suggestion you can reroll. Names are 3 to 24 characters: letters, digits, _ and -. The name becomes your account and your first pilot, and you're in space seconds later.
Coming back on the same browser logs you straight in.
Securing your account
The Secure your account panel opens from the Commbar's Account entry, from the pilot menu, and from any reminder card. It's never forced.
- Add a passkey (recommended). One tap; your browser or password manager does the rest. Passkeys sync through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password or a security key, depending on what you use.
- Set a password instead, 8 to 128 characters, if you prefer.
- Recovery email, optional. Only used to help you recover the account.
Securing changes nothing else. Your pilots, ships, LUM, skills and syndicate stay exactly as they were, and the limits below lift at once.
Signing in elsewhere
On a new device, choose Sign in with passkey on the login screen. Your browser offers the passkeys it has for Farreach; pick yours. No username needed. Username and password sign-in is there too, below it.
What unsecured pilots can't do
- No trading with other pilots. You can buy from and sell to NPC orders, but you can't post standing orders that other pilots could fill.
- No officer or founder roles. You can join a syndicate as a member, but you can't be promoted or found one.
Each refusal says why and opens Secure your account. Contracts are unaffected; they're work for NPC agents.
Reminders
Now and then a small card at the top of the HUD suggests securing: after you buy a ship, after an hour of play, after you join a syndicate. Each can be dismissed for good with Not now. They never block play.
Logging out
Logging out of an unsecured pilot asks first, because the only way back is this same browser, and only until its data is cleared. Choose Secure first or Log out anyway. The login screen then offers Continue as your pilot.
